Nights in White Satin – Savvy Sleepers Satin Pillow Case Review

Sleep deprivation can be education, work or postpartum related. The “after baby” related sleep deprivation is the worst of them all. Sleep is extremely important for health and beauty. Adequate regular sleep patterns foster an environment that encourages the anterior pituitary gland to do its job and secrete the human growth hormone which is responsible for keeping us looking and feeling younger.

Human growth hormone is released at night with a major surge occurring about an hour after the onset of sleep. Adequate and undisturbed regular sleep patterns can raise your level of growth hormones in the body and can keep you looking fresher / healthier everyday. Sleeping on satin pillows, wearing black-out eye masks, using black-out curtains are some of the things you can do to build a peaceful and perfect environment for inducing that deep sleep which is needed to raise the level of HGH in our body. Read about HGH and sleep here and here.

Nights in White Satin – Savvy Sleepers Satin Pillow Case Review

Satin, which has been used by many glamorous Hollywood actresses for generations, is also one of the simplest beauty products to adopt. The fact that you don’t have to slather or massage anything on your face and hair makes it an easier, less time consuming, simpler, longer-lasting (no running out of product here) and more affordable compared to all the other beauty products out there. Satin is built to be smoother and less abrasive (I had textiles as a major in bachelors. If you are a science geek then you can read all about satin here) so it’s pretty much gentler on your skin and hair. If you can imagine what over-teasing can do to your hair or over-use of harsh exfoliants can do to your skin then you can see why satin based surfaces can be better for your skin and hair. Satin also gives you a luxurious and smooth platform that might help you get those long hours of undisturbed regular sleep needed to increase your HGH production.

Dale, the lovely fashion blogger @  recently launched her new Savvy Sleepers unisex luxury satin pillow case collection centered around the idea of getting people to sleep better so they can wake up to better skin and hair everyday. She sent me one of her satin pillow cases to enjoy and I wanted to show my support to her by posting a review on it here.  The lovely slumber party chic meets sleeping beauty themed collection is all about providing a luxurious base for a sleep-filled dreamy night fit for a princess. The product came housed in a beautiful package with a fun slumber-party themed postcard signed by Dale, a fact sheet with instructions on how to use the pillow, a “thank you” note and two mints (how cute is that?). The colors fall into neutral/basic groups and the finish is semi-matte with a light sheen so it can be appealing to both men as well as women. The semi-matte non-slippery surface not only prevents your head from slipping off the pillow case but also looks sophisticated without that overly shiny look. The pillow case also has this cute and nifty built-in hidden pocket where you can keep your ear plugs, mints, love notes, lavender vials, hair ties, head phones, lip balm etc. Watch the Savvy Sleepers “Behind the scenes” photo shoot below for more details on the company and their product –

Overall, I think people look better when they follow a routine that’s centered around good sleep, clean water, heathy diet, healthy relationships and less stress in their life. Skincare is just a good added support. The savvy sleeper collection is all about bonding with friends, having fun and sleeping better so you can kick off that stress a bit and start pampering yourself. Dale is a very committed, caring and passionate person which shows through every one of her blog posts and everything she does. I would definitely buy this product from her in the future and recommend it to everyone I know. If you are interested in learning more about Dale and her products then please do head over to her blog or her company website What do you think about the pillow case? Would you try it? What do you think about the cute built-in hidden pockets? Please leave your comments below.  Make good friends, have fun and sleep better. 🙂

I didn’t realize that sleeping on satin had such benefits but it makes sense when you point out how it’s much gentler. Sleeping is so important for our wellbeing that anything that would enhance the experience is a plus as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for the introduction to this product! Love the Dalai Lama quote 🙂

You are welcome Rowena! And, thanks for the comments. Being an Applied Textiles major and working in the Fabric department testing and processing fabrics, I always knew the benefits of sleeping on satin. I had stitched one before for myself long time ago but I don’t have time to sew anymore. If you can sew then you should try making one for yourself or buy one because it can really make you feel better. The float on the fabric is so much gentler on your hair and skin, and it makes you feel like you are sleeping on a luxurious cloud. Even my kids commented on how smooth and soft the pillow case is and they have been borrowing it from me everyday. You should try it 🙂

Thank you Sheetal and I love the pics and all the satin facts you found. I honestly hadn’t thought about the postpartum factor until a friend of mine recently told me she is actually pregnant and having such a hard time sleeping. And the Dalai Lama quote is priceless. I need to add that to my marketing. 🙂 hehe. Thanks again!

    • March 16, 2013 at 7:33 pm

Thanks Dale! I’m glad you like the pictures and the satin facts. The quote is priceless. It pretty much sums up the benefits of sleeping in one simple yet powerful one liner. You should add it to your marketing. Yes… pregnancy can ruin sleep and I feel for all the new moms out there, Thanks for the lovely pillow and helping me feel like princess. I had a satin pillow before which I stitched for myself but I don’t sew anymore because my kids wouldn’t let me complete anything. I absolutely love the pillow and since my kids have been stealing it from me, I might have to order a few more pieces from you 🙂

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog.

you are so right, sleep is crucial. i know it from my skin. like this week sleep was not on the menu like other times and it instantly took its toll.
i must try satin pillow cases as i have never before. sounds like a good tip and now that i think of it, it should be the perfect pillow for flipping to get the cooler side!

    • March 16, 2013 at 7:19 pm

Sleep is crucial and I didn’t realize how much it can affect health until I had my first baby. The months and years of waking up every 2 -3 hours every night just made me look and feel like a walking zombie. I’m so glad my kids are sleeping better and they are getting to be more independent. You are right.. it should be the perfect pillow for sleeping. Satin pillows are better but expensive too but then all good things are expensive (at least you don’t have to buy it every month like skincare) 🙂

excellent excellent review! you gave a great explanation for these! for anyone in doubt, purchase it. you won’t regret it. i have one and have been sleeping like a baby ever since. i did a post on it and a couple of my readers purchased it. they love theirs! it feels so good (very soft), i washed it on gentle and hung it to dry and it feels just the same. i know you’re saying a pillowcase can do all of that? yes, it can. the link to my review is below.

    • March 16, 2013 at 7:11 pm

Thanks for the comments kim and sharing your experience with us! I haven’t yet washed the pillow case but I’m sure it will hold up to the washing / drying cycle pretty well. I wore synthetics all my college life because I love how manageable they are and they don’t even need to be ironed. I think Dale put a lot of effort and thought into choosing the right fabric weight, sheen, colors, fabric blend and the design (the pocket does set the pillow apart from other pillows in the market and the seams inside are very well done). I worked in Apparel Manufacturing and Apparel buying house as a Apparel QA/ merchandiser/fabric stores QA so the tester in me says “pass” 🙂

The satin pillowcase sounds amazing – I wouldn’t mind trying it for myself!

    • March 16, 2013 at 7:13 pm

You should try it! It’s luxury that feeds beauty and health. I think everybody should sleep on satin so they feel good at the end of the day and wake up feeling better 🙂

Wow, this was really interesting. I didn’t know anything about the HGH – I do looove my sleep, and now there are even more reasons for it! This satin pillow looks gorgeous, might have to give it a try…

    • March 28, 2013 at 4:54 pm

Well I knew about HGH since I am a science major but I didn’t think about it until I was 30+. The sad part is HGH slows down with aging so you have to work a lot harder as you grow older so you feel fit enough. I love my sleep too and I am known for that in our family. You should try the satin looks gorgeous and is functional too. 🙂
