Reel Sparkle – Romeo & Juliet

Thanks to Swarovski for inviting us to a special prescreening of Swarovski Entertainment‘s first movie on Tuesday, Romeo & Juliet. Written by Julian Fellowes (creator of Downtown Abby) and directed by Carlos Carlei, the story of this movie is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s epic tale of love and was written to appeal to the new generation. Actress Hailey Steinfeld and Douglas Booth (Burberry model) play the star crossed lovers in this film. Venturing out into movie production probably gives the company another creative outlet to enchant us into the glamorous world filled with drama and sparkles.
Here is a video clip of the trailer  –
Set in 16th century, this movie takes you into the beautiful world of Renaissance with poetic, romantic and intricate costumes and other elaborate settings. Shot in Verona, Mantua and Rome, Italy, these gorgeous locations give us another reason to watch the movie.

The beautiful costumes designed by costume designer Carlo Poggioli light up the screen with their delicate and intricate details such as puffing, slashing, ruffles, lacing, embroidered panels, quilted details etc. According to Swarovski, an impressive number of over 20,000 crystals and pearls were used in the construction of these beautiful costumes. The highlight of the collection is a beautiful blue gown that Juliet wears to the Masquerade Ball where she gets spotted by Romeo for the first time. Made out of blue velvet, this gorgeous gown features silver and crystals embroidery, and is paired with a sparkling blue mask with silver netting to complete the look.

The video clip below shows how the costumes were made and all the details that went into making of these costumes.
Like Hailey says in the clip above, all the gowns are super sparkly and extremely pretty making it hard to pick out a favorite. Are you going to watch this movie?  Do you like the costumes and sketches? Have a lovely weekend. 🙂

The painstaking attention to detail and craftsmanship of the costumes in this movie is quite impressive. Costumes are really an integral element to any film. What a lucky girl Hailee is to have gotten wear such beautiful dresses. That pale blue gown is absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing this Sheetal! I’m not sure if I will watch this one in the theaters yet. I’ll have to see how the reviews are.

The costumes and locations are absolutely gorgeous. Renaissance is one of my favorite periods in costume history so I would go to any movie with costumes from this period. 🙂

i LOVED this post. although i always like your posts but here is the thing…i am not a particular fan of romeo & juliet but this trailer first came to my attention when i went to see “austenland” and i just felt immediately drawn to it. also, after the raving that went on about the play’s adaptation on broadway this year with orlando bloom i was just happy to be back to a more traditional and literary adaptation.
the costumes i can’t even speak about. they are simply stunning but what else can one expect from the creator of “downton abbey”?

I’m not a fan of Romeo & Juliet either but I absolutely loved the costumes (Renaissance is one of my favorite times in costume history) and the sets are beautiful. Actors are engaging too. 🙂

I definitely have to see this! The preview, set and costumes are amazing. I saw where a Romeo & Juliet movie was coming out, but I thought it was going to be boring. I hadn’t seen a trailer for this, so I can’t thank you enough for posting this. Will have to see what theater it will be showing at. I LOVE these kind of movies. THANKS!!!

You’re welcome Kim! The movie costumes are amazing and worth seeing and so are the sets, I’m not a big fan of Romeo & Juliet story but the movie is very engaging when it comes to actors, costumes and sets. The dialogues are more modern I think and that might appeal to the modern generation. I can’t imagine falling in love madly in a second, marrying the guy next day and dying for each other but I did love the costumes, sets and everything else about the movie. Hope that helps 🙂

Heya excellent blog! Does running a blog similar to this take a great deal of work? I’ve absolutely no understanding of computer programming but I was hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyway, should you have any recommendations or techniques for new blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject but I just needed to ask. Thank you!
