Red Hot Tips

Have you ever used lipsticks as blushes and eyeshadows?  If you have been following me for a while then you know how much I love multitasking and versatile beauty products or tips. I always look for tips that can make my life easier. I recently came across this video by an amazing makeup artist who uses lipstick as a blush, stain, matte lipstick, gloss and more. These tips will come in handy if you want to incorporate them into your daily looks, especially if you are pressed for time or you just want to carry around very few items in your purse.

This video below not only shows you how to use lipstick as a blush but also different ways to wear a bright colored lipstick, from a stain-like effect to the bold and glamorous “classic hollywood” lip. Actress Jessica Alba also revealed the use of lipstick as an eyeshadow and a blush as her beauty trick that she swears by in an interview with sytlelist.com. I have done this a few times myself and I love the idea. Recently, I tried using Badger tinted balm in “copper and opal shimmer” as an eye shadow and it turned out pretty well. The consistency was not so easy to blend and needed tweaking but with some creativity, I could make it work very well as an eyeshadow or a blush.

Using lipsticks on eyes or checks is not a new idea. A lot of makeup artists actually recommend this. For example, Pat McGrath’s recent tips for creating Spring 2012 looks include using red lipstick on your eyes. She creates pretty much all the famous runway looks that we so crave for so if she says you can use lipstick on your eyes then the idea is definitely not as crazy as it sounds.  Here are some of her tips as seen on Fashionista that involve using a red lipstick in many ways.

To achieve those red eyes that we all loved at the miu miu show, Pat recommends using lipstick as an eye color.

To achieve a super shiny lacquered lip that will actually stay put, she recommends using a stain first, then a lipstick, then slicking on some gloss over it.

To achieve the metallic red lips that we loved on the YSL runway, she recommends applying a bit of your favorite lipstick and then dusting some gold eyeshadow on the top of it for a similar look.

To achieve those amazing shiny dark cherry lips that we loved at the Balenciaga show, she recommends using a dark red lipstick and dotting a bit of actual black makeup into the center of the lip and blending it to achieve a theatrical like effect.

Would you try experimenting with your lipsticks as an eyeshadow or a blush?  Do you think this trick sounds bizarre?  Do you have any similar unusual tricks that you would like to share here with our readers today?

Ps: Always test the area to make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients, especially when using near the eye area. If you have sensitive eyes or skin then you might want to avoid these tips.
