Deep Purple

Did you get to see Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2012 collection?  Inspired by Nobuyashi Araki’s photographic series, “Sensual Flower”, Mr. Gurung’s collection was like an adventurous and creative digital journey inspired by a sensual flower with a highly feminine and artistic with a modern appeal. High on purple, beautifully placed cut-outs, unique bursting floral prints, gradation, harnesses and texture-material mix, this collection is very eye catching and creative with a more of a modern painter’s point of view.

I not only loved the artistic, wild and creative side of this collection but also appreciated the fact that it never strayed too far away from it’s overall feminine appeal. The color palette made up of vibrant hues of purple, pinks,  blue-greens, blacks and whites went perfectly with the sensual and artistic neo-feminist floral story. This combined with digital floral prints, ombre spray paint like effects, pleats, sexy slits, metallic and 3D effects, uniquely cut-out panels, sheer layer of mesh-like inserts etc. highlighted the collection’s wildly sensual yet uniquely feminine side. Bondage belts and beautifully detailed rope /leather harnesses were used for a tough vibe without taking away from the collection’s feminine charm. Accessories included Prabal Gurung for Nicholas Kirkwood heels, leather harnesses by Zana Bayne and Prabal Gurung for Linda Farrow Projects sunglasses. Lips were painted bright fuchsia with gradation effect to go with the sensual flower theme. The Makeup artist talked about the bursting flower theme being the inspiration for the lip makeup and how the gradation captures the concept of transition  from darkness to light. This is a must see collection for purple lovers. Is purple your color?  Let me know what you think of this collection.
